Provincetown, at the tip of Cape Cod, has been voted the number 1 LGBT beach resort in the USA by many publications. At the extreme tip of Cape Cod, the town is popular with both artistic and gay communities. At the end of the 19th century, under the aegis of Charles W. Hawthorne, who created The Cape Cod School of Art, many artists came to Provincetown, including Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollock.
